Week 1 Fitness Challenge

Author S11Support    Category Fitness Challenge     Tags

Competitors,

The first week of a diet usually shows a good loss relatively easy; most of this is water weight lost and strong dieting will power. Next week it will get a little harder to diet before it gets easier. Keep in mind your team mates and you might want to take up some form of exercise, like walking. There is plenty of activities to train for! For instance, the torch run is in April and consists of running or biking. Plenty of time to train for this event now!

Speaking of exercise, AROUND THE CLOCK FITNESS gives a police discount for gym membership. Usually 35$, for us it is just $26 and the owner will go lower if we can get enough people signed up by Jan 15th! They are opening another location in Ft. Myers on Colonial but already have a gym in Cape Coral. When you cant make the drive to the office gym, this might be a good option! Spin, zumba, and aerobics are all included free in the monthly fee. There are no contracts and you can bail any time you want! Contact me or Sgt. Jason Miller for more information!

Sheriff’s Office employees begin fitness challenge

Cape Coral Daily Breeze

Lee County Sheriff’s Office employees began the 9th annual LCSO Fitness Challenge this week. This challenge is a voluntary agency-wide 12-week weight loss competition designed to make winners of the “biggest weight losers.” Last year, almost 200 LCSO employees participated in the Lee County Sheriff’s Office 8th annual “Fitness Challenge.”

Challengers weigh in this week and at the finish of the 12-week challenge in April 2013. There is an individual challenge as well as a team challenge. Whoever loses the most weight, based on overall body weight percentage, is the winner. A small prize fund fee was required to enter the challenge so cash prizes could be given to some of the overall team “biggest losers.”

The challenge concept of this weight loss contest in nothing new; however, it is modeled after the 9-1-1 Fitness Challenge. The 9-1-1 Challenge (911fitness.com) is on its 15th successful year and is run by retired Miami Police Lieutenant and former bodybuilder Jim Sayih. The results of the challenge are simple; help promote weight loss and a healthier life style to those who serve and protect the public.

The New Balance Store on Trailwinds Drive, The firm of Lusk, Drasites, Tulisano and Smith, and Brad Henry, Regional Director for Take Shape for Life are the generous sponsors who sponsor the fitness challenge.

Tai Chi Event Demonstration

Author S11Support    Category Events, Exercise Classes, News     Tags

MARK YOUR CALENDARS!!!!!

Due to the many positive responses we received from our first demonstration, we’ve scheduled another tai chi event for:

Saturday, December 1st (11 a.m to 12 p.m.) at Gulf Coast Town Center.

However please note, the demonstration will take place in the TownCenter’s “University Plaza,” which is a large grass circle in the center of the facility.

I have high expectations for this activity, as the weather should be cooler and the location is larger and more visible.  Hopefully, we’ll be able to inspire holiday shoppers to take a moment from the frenzy of gift buying to think about their health, relax and participate :-)
